Formerly known as "Taiwan Provincial Normal College", the school acquired its present name, National Taiwan Normal University, after taking over the school building and equipment of Taiwan Provincial Taipei Senior High School. It has cultivated innumerable talents and spared no efforts to popularize education in Taiwan. In addition, Calligrapher Dong Yangzi, Xi Murong, the painter and poet, Writer Lin Liang and Lin Pang-Soong, a winner of the National Medal for the Arts, are all outstanding alumni of the National Taiwan Normal University and they all have a place in their respective professional fields.
